Selection Policy (Senior cricket)
- Sides are selected by the three team captains in consultation with the Chairman and Youth Coordinator as necessary
- The 1st XI is selected first, then the 2nd XI and then the 3rd XI
- Selection will be based principally on ability, form and performances as well as the balance of the side
- Other criteria that may be taken into account include development of young players, attendance at training, attitude and conduct, reliability, and non-payment of match fees or subscriptions
- Players selected for the 1st XI must be registered with the Cherwell Cricket League
- Captains will note availability after each game for the following weekend
- Players will be notified of the side they are selected in at Tuesday night training or by text/email. Players notified by text/email must confirm within 24 hours or else they will be assumed to be not available. It is not the captains’ responsibility to chase people for confirmation
- Captains will be pleased to discuss selection decisions with any player (including where players feel they should be in a higher XI or would prefer to play in a lower XI) and will take this into consideration for future weeks
- However, all players must play for the side they are selected for in any given week. Any player ‘refusing’ to play in a particular XI will be deemed to be not available for all sides
- Confirmed sides will be posted on the club website
- On very rare occasions a player may need to withdraw from a team after being selected. The player should consider the effect this has not only on the team they were selected for but also the other teams in the club. The later this withdrawal is made the more inconvenient it is for the club
- Any player who does withdraw after selection should be aware that they may be putting their place in the team in jeopardy for the following weeks
Matchday Arrangements
- For away matches, players should notify their captain whether they are travelling direct or will be meeting at the club
- All players must meet at the match ground (home or away) at the time notified by the captain. This is usually at least 45 mins prior to the start time
- Players should participate in pre-match warm up sessions
- Captains will notify players by text in the event that a game is postponed due to bad weather
- All players must uphold the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and the Cherwell League Player Conduct Rules
- All players must uphold all club rules and guidelines (incl. changing room and transport guidelines designed to safeguard young players)
- Players should assist the captain when asked and ideally without being asked (incl. with umpiring and scoring duties, organising drinks, putting on covers, collecting match fees, helping with the bar)
- Players should make an effort to spend some time after the match socialising with team mates and opposition
Training Nights
- Players should make every effort to attend Tuesday night training on a regular basis
- Attendance at training may be a factor in team selection
- Players should take training seriously and seek to improve their game but equally it should be enjoyable and is an opportunity for players from all teams to come together
- Players are encouraged to lead sessions or drills at training
- Players should help with set-up and clear-away on training nights
- Where training might be in doubt due to poor weather then players should check the club website or contact a team captain
